Mbox 2 Micro
Here’s some fresh news from Digidesign! Mbox 2 Micro is a compact USB dongle featuring a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a volume control dial. Resembling an oversized memory stick made out of blue anodized aluminium, it offers 24 Bit/48 kHz, stereo outputs, and no inputs. Micro retails for $279 and comes with Pro Tools LE as well as Core Audio, ASIO, and WAV drivers for those who use may want to use it with other apps, too.
Digi obviously targeted existing Pro Tools users looking for a portable alternative to their TDM or LE rig while travelling. Now having a closer look at the chubby little stick, the pricepoint looks a bit hefty compared to Digi’s own Mbox 2 mini which is only $60 more, featuring dual inputs as well as a microphone preamp plus the Ignition Pack software. Micro doesn’t come with either of these. On the other hand you get a full Pro Tools LE licence, and that alone should be easily worth the money. If only they had included an iLok dongle into that blue piece of aluminium…
